This course teaches carpenters how to apply fundamental building skills to high-performance construction projects. Topics focus on the four layers of a high-performance house: water, air, vapor, and thermal. Throughout the 6-week course, students will learn high-performance essentials through building science lessons and hands-on practice with mock-up assemblies. The multi-faceted learning approach provides carpenters with a holistic understanding of high-performance construction from building science to install. Through classroom concepts, hands-on training, and project management overview, this class is ideal for any carpenter who wants to excel in high-performance construction.

Tuition Assistance: SHPDC is happy to announce that this course has been approved for the state of Massachusetts’ Workforce Training Program Express Program. MA-based employers can get 100% reimbursement for training costs up to $3,000 per person or $30,000 total per year. You’ll need to apply at least 21 days prior to the course start date (and you’ll need a Certificate of Good Standing to apply, which can take a few days) so we recommend you start the process at least a month in advance. Employers must pay for the courses up front, and then are reimbursed by the state at the completion of the course.

3. A Certificate of Good Standing from the Massachusetts Department of Revenue (issued within the last six months) Note that it can take a couple days to receive the online copy.
